Haar finished the season with a .240 batting average, including 16 RBI and 16 runs scored. On the hill, Jason was 3-3 with a 5.06 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 58.2 innings. Haar's best performance came in the Tigers' final game of the season as he tossed Pacific's only complete game shutout, holding Cal State Northridge to nine hits and two walks in a 6-0 victory on May 27. Haar also took it to the Matadors at the plate early in the season, delivering a 4-for-5 performance with two RBI and three runs scored to lift the Tigers to a 12-0 win on Feb. 4. Haar's pitching career has been cut short due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), suffered in the fall of 2007. Jason's injury will limit him to hitting during the 2008 season.
2006 (Sophomore):
Jason took the mound in 16 contests during 2006, including five starts. He finished the season with a 3.97 ERA in 45.1 innings pitched, allowing 20 earned runs on 50 hits. Haar posted two of the Tigers' best pitching performances of 2006 as he held No. 12 Oregon State to one run on four hits through six innings. The Tigers, however, were unable to hold the lead in the ninth inning as the eventual College World Series Champion Beavers defeated the Tigers, 6-4. During the final weekend of the season, Haar baffled Cal State Northridge, allowing an unearned run on seven hits in seven innings for his third win of the season on May 26 as the Tigers defeated the Matadors, 3-2. Haar also proved to be a valuable asset out of the bullpen for the Tigers, collecting three saves and stranding eight of 12 inherited runners. A dual threat for the Tigers, Haar also provided a powerful left-handed bat off the bench. Jason's biggest hit of the season came on Mar. 19, as he drove in the game-tying run in the top of the ninth inning against Cal with a pinch-hit single. The Tigers went on to claim the game in the 10th, 6-5.
2005 (Freshman):
Haar grew into one of the Tigers' top starters during the 2005 season, finishing his freshman season with a 3.95 ERA. Haar was 4-4, surrendering 99 hits in 86.2 innings. In his last five appearances of 2005, Jason was 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA in 29.1 innings. Haar allowed just one run in 6.1 innings of relief to allow the Tigers to come back from a 4-2 first inning deficit and take a 12-5 contest over Cal State Northridge on May 14. Jason had the best outing of his career and arguably the best outing on the mound during the season for a Tiger pitcher on May 3 as he tossed a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits in the Tigers' 6-1 win over Saint Mary's. Haar did not walk a batter in the outing and recorded a career-high six strikeouts. Jason earned his first collegiate victory in Pacific's 7-2 win over Hawai'i on Mar. 23 as he tossed seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned). Jason had an excellent debut as a Pacific Tiger, only to suffer a 1-0 loss as he tossed 6.1 innings of one run ball against Nevada on Feb. 5 with two walks and two strikeouts.
High School:
Haar graduated from St. Augustine High School in San Diego, Calif. in 2004. He helped guide St. Augustine HS to a combined 47-18 record over the 2003 and 2004 seasons. In his career with St. Augustine, Haar was a combined 19-7 in three seasons. As a senior, Jason was 7-2 with a 2.20 ERA on the mound and posted an impressive .430 batting average with seven home runs and 35 RBI. Following his senior season, Jason was named to the All-CIF Team, All-Eastern League Team and the All-Section Team. Haar was equally as effective as a junior, finishing with an 8-3 record and a 3.22 ERA. At the plate, he hit .379 with two HR's and 25 RBI. Jason earned All-Central League and All-CIF honors following the 2003 campaign.
Personal:
Jason Haar is the son of Timothy and Joanne Haar. Jason has one brother, Bryan (18).
